On this day (19th August) in 14 AD died Augustus, the Founder of the Roman Empire (27 BC - 476/1453 AD).

Gaius Julius Caesar Octavianus (23 September 63 BC – 19 August 14 AD) led Rome’s transformation from Republic to Empire during the tumultuous years following the assassination of his great-uncle and adoptive father Gaius Julius Caesar.
